Pickford Grassland Area Birding Locations

The open grasslands of this area provide many unique upland species. Keep your eyes and ears open for species such as Clay-colored Sparrow, Grasshopper Sparrow, Bobolink and the state’s largest Sharp-tailed Grouse population as you travel highway 48 and the backroads of Pickford. In addition Northern Harriers and Rough-legged Hawks are often found in this area Spring through Fall. The Munuscong Wildlife management areas off of 21 Mile Road provide an additional set of unique bird species including the state’s largest Le Conte’s Sparrow population. Upland Sandpiper, Sedge Wren and American Bittern are additional unique species that can be found here.

Quote of the day

“Like winds and sunsets, wild things were taken for granted until progress began to do away with them. Now we face the question whether a still higher 'standard of living' is worth its cost in things natural, wild and free. For us of the minority, the opportunity to see geese is more important than television.”
